A Christmas Disaster

This just in... yesterday's straight-line winds have caused major damage in a small town known to locals as Grandma's Snow Village. The town's mayor is calling for the state governor to declare Grandma's Snow Village a disaster area and approve federal funding for repairs. Most heavily hit was the area near Matt's Gas Station. As you can see from this aerial photo, several trees and fences were knocked down and quite a few pedestrians injured. Two young men can be seen trying to push a disabled vehicle to the side of the road. The building seems to be intact, but it looks like business will be slow for Matt in the days ahead as cleanup efforts continue.

Volunteers gathered outside the local General Store to organize a search party for two young male campers who were reportedly sightseeing on a nearby mountain at the time of the storm's onset. No word yet on the ages or identities of the missing young men, but we do know that one young man was wearing a green pea coat with blue jeans and the other, a red and brown snowsuit. Treacherous shifting snow and heavy continuing winds are delaying the search. Anyone who wants to assist in search efforts or anyone with helpful information can contact the local sheriff's office. Our hearts go out to the families of these young men.

Luckily, the school house in Grandma's Snow Village was spared, as were the children attending school at the time. As you can see, the displaced STOP sign in their school yard did not deter these young ones from having a little wintertime snow fun!

We'll keep you posted with any new developments.
