What, you don't believe me? Well, here, I can prove it:
See? I told you so!Oh, and yes, that is an old 80's Michael Jackson Barbie doll. Since I know you want to know how I came across this after all these years, I'll tell you. I found it in a box containing the following:
1. Michael Jackson Barbie doll complete with sparkly socks and the one glove and a microphone. He is (was) wearing the red jacket that was his trademark in the 80s. You know, the one with the zippers and stuff?
2. Two of my old Barbies dressed in big frilly dresses.
3. Lots of changes of clothes and jewelry for Barbie and Ken, including the necklace and earrings and ring from the first Barbie I ever owned. She had long curly dark hair and was dressed in a Spanish-style outfit and I loved her. I have pictures of me playing with her and Western Ken in my new Barbie Dream House when I was like five(?).
4. Two Ken dolls. The first one is named Derek and I think he belonged to my sister. He has the brown plastic helmet hair, but with blonde highlights. I'm not kidding. The second one is Ken from Barbie and the Rockers and he has real hair (well, synthetic hair instead of the plastic painted-on helmet) and his own hairbrush and a long Matrix-style coat, but in silver instead of black. Oh, and by the way, I still have the cassette tape that came with Barbie and the Rockers. It's hot pink and has a couple of songs on it. My sister and I used to rock out with Barbie and her rock-star group. We had the whole set of dolls, too. One, named Diva, had this giant red 'fro. She was awesome.
5. A complete set of New Kids on the Block Barbie/Ken-size dolls. They still have the long "tail" of hair in the back and baseball caps and all their clothes and shoes (minus a couple pairs of socks).
Yes, they were mine, and yes, I have handed them down to my daughter (all except the New Kids on the Block dolls because, well, I have a deep-seated emotional attachment to those dolls. Okay, not really. I'm really going to eBay them and see what happens. If they don't sell, then I'll pass them on to my daughter). Princess constantly refers to MJ as "her" or "pretty Michael Jackson." She has tried, on numerous occasions, to convince me to dress pretty Michael Jackson in wedding dresses or big frilly pink dresses and heels. I am not sure how I feel about that. Although I do think it's pretty dang funny.
I hope you have enjoyed my little trip down memory lane. Now I am off to get all dressed up and go have a girls-only lunch with my little girl.

Nothing could be scarier than having Michael Jackson at your breakfast table. Well, except for maybe the New Kids on the Block.
You have just inspired me to post about my Barbie thing. Interested to read in your profile about your affinity for Daphne Du Maurier. The name rang a bell; I couldn't remember, and then it hit me, the movie "Rebecca!" I love classic movies, too. I'll always remember Carol Burnett's spoof of Rebecca. OK--I'm counting on you to do the meme!
