I read about Boomama's Before and After challenge this morning and I just have to play along.
Click the link to see what's going on. Since I'm a master procrastinator, we'll just go ahead and jump right in... Here's the before photo:
What, you can't tell what that is? Okay, so here's a better shot:
The top photo was taken as I was laying on my back on the Princess' bottom bunk (the one with all the PINKness). Big Brother sleeps up there on top, in all the BLUEness. The Princess has been begging me for months to paint the board under Big Brother's mattress. She wants something frilly and girly to look at when she's laying in her bed. I ask you, as her mother, who am I to say no to my only daughter's request for the frilly and girly?
Also, the board poking out the edge there, on the floor... that's Big Brother's train board. For his fourth birthday, my dad built the train board and my parents gave Big Brother a full set of Thomas the Tank Engine trains and track. I painted the "Island of Sodor" knock-off scene on the board. (What you can't see is the mountain range that doesn't look anything like a mountain range.)
So the plan is to take Big Brother's mattress off so I can sand and paint the board it rests on. This means Big Brother will be sleeping on the couch, but to be honest, he usually ends up there anyway after he goes to the potty at night. I'll put them all to bed in their room, only to wake up and find that Big Brother migrated during the night. So the whole sleeping on the couch thing isn't that big a deal for him.
Besides, while I'm in the process of beautifying the Princess' bedtime view, maybe I can do something about the "artwork" on the walls:
And on a whim, maybe I'll even find time to pull the sticky foot thing off the ceiling. (I won't tell how long it's been there, but after I took the photo, I noticed the greasy spot where it's stuck. EWW. Must clean that, too.)
So that's my plan! Head over to Boomama's to see what everyone else is up to! Then come back here or there on July 25 and see all the "after" shots!

There is a solution to kids artwork on the walls. PUT THE CRAYONS OUT OF REACH!!!!!
Thank you, "anonymous," for the advice. Evidently, you've never met my children. There is no such thing as "out of reach" where they're concerned.
haaaaa...I loved this exchange. 'anonymous' clearly has no children. baah.
one of my friends once told me a woman advised that she 'just keep the (17 month) baby out of the dog's way from now on'
...to which she replied, 'if I could DO THAT, I would just go ahead and potty train her. but thanks for the tip.'
