My very own quilt, just for me

I've been planning this quilt for a while now, but just got around to working on it today. I'm making either a full-size or queen-size quilt from all my kids' old baby clothes. My bed is full-size, so it will probably be somewhere in between full and queen. You can click the photo to see it larger.

It's a decent start so far. I plan to use a flat queen-sized sheet for the back, but I'll probably end up cutting some off, and I believe I have more than enough material so far to make the rest of the top. This is just all the logos and pictures and stuff. The rest of the clothes and all the blankets and that kind of stuff are cut into blocks and strips. I might finish the edge with material from an old full size fitted sheet that the kids tore a big hole in. I haven't decided yet. I also haven't decided how I'm going to actually go about quilting it. I could stitch along all the seams (stitch in the ditch), but here in the middle panel, that would be really difficult with a machine. It's doable, but I don't know if I want to. It would be fastest, though. I thought about hand-tying at all the corners, but that would take FOREVER. So I still have a lot of work left to do on it, but I feel better about the whole thing now that I've actually gotten something done. I can't wait to see what the finished product will look like!

I love this idea! I think I'm going to steal it if you don't mind!

That is great. I'm saving a few things for each of my children to have put into quilts for them to keep. I thought I was ready to start (well, to give them to a relative who quilts) but now we are expecting again, so I guess I will be waiting. I like the idea of one for me too though. Something to think about anyway.

Thank for you visiting 2nd cup. Then I come here, and see that I'm on your blogroll. You just made my day, Girl. I have three teenagerish kids, and I kept some of their sweetest outfits. I have not had them preserved, and I know they will fall apart someday. Your idea is really, really good. Have a great weekend!
